What is a corgi?

The corgi is a race of herding dog originating from Wales, hence its full name, Welsh Corgi. Two separate breeds are recognised, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Both races predate modern times and were used by the Welsh to herd cattle. Their name translate from Gaellic Welsh as Kor, Dwarf, and Gi, Dogs: this is a direct reference to the size of the corgi, which at its adult size generally do not exceed an height of 35 centimeters for a weight of no more than 20kg.

What are the main traits of the corgi?

The Welsh Corgi is the perfect dog for people living in cities. Being a short and buffed dog it combines the advantages of small and big dogs: it can live in appartments and can be played with. Unlike a Yorkshire or a Chihuahua a corgi can be trained as if it was a German Shepherd; namely, it is a big dog with short legs. It is a friendly dog and it is perfect for families and safe fro children due to its warm nature and the fact that it is a very social dog.
